LHA Hosts Timely Webinar on Tariffs, Trade Wars, and Market Volatility
Recently, LHA hosted a timely and insightful webinar focused on the impact of escalating tariff tensions and trade war developments—factors that have created significant confusion and volatility across global markets. The uncertainty surrounding these issues sent markets reeling, with the VIX (Volatility Index) spiking to levels well above 40, reflecting heightened investor fear and market instability.
The goal of the webinar was to help investors better understand the implications of these events by decoding the message being sent by the VIX and examining the broader effects on market dynamics as of that date.
Featured speakers Mike and Matt Thompson—both CFA charterholders and portfolio managers of the volatility-driven Tactical Beta and Tactical Q strategies—provided a comprehensive market recap. Their commentary delivered up-to-date insights into how these developments are influencing investor sentiment, portfolio strategy, and asset allocation decisions.
Due Diligence Session Replay: Tactical Beta Strategy
The strategy provides constant exposure to instruments linked to the performance or volatility of the S&P 500®Index (S&P 500) unless or until U.S. equity market volatility signals ‘risk off’. When that happens, exposure to the S&P 500 is reduced to seek to preserve capital. The signal that triggers a risk-off position is based on a proprietary statistical analysis and manager skill and experience. The Tactical Beta Strategy seeks to provide passive exposure to the S&P 500 with tail-risk management…thus the name “Tactical Beta”. Actual positions are determined based on the skill and experience of Matt and Mike Thompson who developed the Tactical Beta strategy while working at previous asset management firms and since then have been jointly and primarily responsible for managing the strategy.
†LHA has an exclusive license from Thompson Capital Management (TCM) to employ and market the Alpha Seeker, Tactical Beta, and Tactical Q strategies.
Due Diligence Session Replay: Risk Managed Income Strategy
Recent markets have highlighted the need for managing risk in fixed income as well as equities. Returns can be greatly offset by volatility in the fixed income markets. The following video is a discussion on managing risk through a tactical approach to fixed income. The Risk Managed Income Strategy has produced a 4.29% annualized return since inception 1/1/2012 with a 3.30% Standard Deviation versus a 1.34% annualized net return and a 4.00% Standard Deviation for the BBG US AGG Bond Index† during the same period.
